Valentina Perazzini - italian visual artist based in Brussels

“[...]The character scatters in fragments nowadays”, Virginia Woolf answered to critics of her novel Jacob’s Room. “People say I cannot create[...] characters who will survive”. The thing which interests me the most is the idea of identity as ipseité, taken from Paul Ricoeur’s definition: identity following a narrative aspect, and which undergoes modifications every time the subject builds his personal narration (one narration of himself).

If this was already true during Virginia Woolf’s epoch, let alone what is happening today between reality and fiction through Social networks and Netflix, as we are facing the issue of defining ourselves in any contest: “creating a profile”.

I put a lot of interest in reading because it is enshrining in time;

it may be compared to a TV series which goes along with us, and during this juncture we live our life mixing it up with fictional characters’ story.

My work is composed of varieties of experiments, aiming constantly to build bridges between reality and narration: I am trying to shape a synthetic-nature fiction, through collages and Ikea plants. These attempts are oriented to the narration of this instantaneous and sublimate reality, where everything seems stretched out towards the ultimate question “Where are we going to meet?”

In fact, the other will be the only one capable to define us, as another broken mirror which scatters us in fragments.
